INDIGENOUS AUSTRALIANS FINALLY GOT A CONTEMPORARY MUSICAL FOOT IN THE DOOR WITH THE FUCKING UNREAL "WARUMPI BAND" AND THEIR FIRST RELEASE, ENTITLED "JAILANGARU PAKARNU" [OUT OF JAIL] IN 1983 . . . . SUNG IN THE LEAD SINGER'S DIALECT, IT KICKED ARSE, RAW, VISCERAL, ROCKABILLY NAIVATE AND PAVED THE WAY FOR AN ENTIRE GENERATION OF ASPIRING ABORIGINAL MUSICIANS . . . ONE OF OF MY FAVE AUSSIE TUNES OF THE PERIOD !!!

Saw em live with 'The Oil' at Bombay rock in Sufferers Parasite back in '85 or thereabouts and they were the shit !!! . . . sadly, George Burarrwanga, their affable, enigmatic and vibrant frontman went on to the big dreaming some years ago but the band's 'token whitey' and co-founder, Neil Murray, and the Butcher brothers are still around to carry on their significant legacy . . .

Also from their first album, "Big Name, No Blankets", is the still pertinent and straight to the point tune "Blackfella/Whitefella" . . . it ain't complex, intellectual wank, and they sure as shit weren't that kinda band, but what it is, is honest, to the point songwriting focused on true brotherhood, regardless of skin colour, religion or any of the other stuff that in the final analysis doesn't matter a rat's arse !!!!

Despite Peter Garrett selling his soul to political piss weakery, he and Midnight Oil have much to be proud of from the glory days of the eighties and helping get the Warumpi's onto the national stage is right up there with the best of it . . . . .

**** TO GET DOWN TO SOME ORIGINAL, INSPIRED AND TOTALLY COOL ABORIGINAL AUSSIE "INDIGABILLY", HIT ON THE LINK UNDERNEATH OR ON POST TITLE AND SHAKE A LEG TO "JAILANGARU PAKARNU" FROM THE "WARUMPI BAND" . . . . . .
