I can forgive ol' Kenny all his musical ordinariness and beige coloured blandness on account of his so excellently covering this Tillis penned masterpiece, not that I had a clue about Mel Tillis back when I was nine when this came out . . . . 'Ode to Billy Jo' always leads me onto thoughts of this and vice versa, the last verse is the killer, anyone who can't empathise with the narrator ain't got no soul . . . .
REAL COOL SHIT - REAL BIKES, REAL CARS, REAL TUNES . . . . AND A LI'L BIT OF REAL VITRIOLIC RANTING . . . . AND A WHOLE BUNCH OF OTHER COOL STUFF THAT GIVES ME THE HORN . . . . unless otherwise stated, all words, blurbs and drivel herein are entirely mine. I hope you dig it. KENNY ROGERS AND THE FIRST EDITION "RUBY, DON'T TAKE YOUR LOVE TO TOWN" . . . . KENNY'S VERSION OF THE GREAT MEL TILLIS TUNE GETS HIM OFF THE HOOK FOR A CAREER FULL OF SHMALTZY, LIMP, SOFTCOCK BALLADS AND BAD HAIR . . . . PAINTS A VIVID PORTRAIT OF A BROKEN MAN AND A CHEATIN WIFE . . . . TRULY MOVING STUFF !!!!
