Thanks to "TheBeezaGent" for posting this on PooTube, as he said, it's not great quality but worth a look at the old Daytona 'Track" and the racing itself, average speed in this event was something around the the 95 mph mark . . . . it's easy to be dismissive of this kind of info in a day when an off the floor bog stock bike can pull upwards of 175 mph but this was fucking quick for the time and the circuit, make no mistake about that, combine that with track surface considerations, minimal safety gear and you've got some serious big balls racing . . . .
I don't have the specific year in mind but you can see how the Daytona banked oval was already in place here and was really just magnified and extended when the 'proper' track was built not too long after this period . . . . it's always been a scene of some of my most memorable two and four wheeled racing action since I was a wee lad, the banks, the massive speeds attained, especially in the heyday of Nascar throughout the sixties and early seventies, I'll get there one day, even if it's a tad too late.
