"STEVE McQUEEN'S 1947 INDIAN CHIEF CHOPPER" [BY 'RICHARD BACKUS' ON POOTUBE] . . . . EVERY NOW AND THEN YOU STUMBLE ONTO SOMETHING YOU HAD NO CLUE EVEN EXISTED . . . . LIKELY ALL OF YOU, ESPECIALLY THOSE FROM IOWA, WERE AWARE OF IT . . . . ME, NOT A FREAKIN CLUE . . . . UNTIL NOW . . . . BEING A HUGE McQUEEN FAN, THIS IS BLOODY AWESOME !!!

THE KING OF COOL, A REAL MAN'S ACTION HERO, NOT ONLY A PRETTY DECENT ACTOR BUT A BLOKE WHO DID MOST OF HIS OWN STUNTWORK, NOT THE 'BIG JUMP' IN "THE GREAT ESCAPE" THOUGH, HE RACED CARS AND BIKES, FEATURED HEAVILY IN THE CLASSIC "ON ANY SUNDAY" AND GOT DRAGGED INTO REPRESENTING THE STATES IN THE ISDT BY GOOD FRIEND BUD EKINS . . . . LIKE I SAID, ONE SERIOUSLY AND PERPETUALLY COOL DUDE . . . . AND APPARENTLY THE OLD INDIAN WAS HIS 'CHOP', I'M JUST STOKED TO BE ABLE TO LOOK AT IT IN VIDEO FORM, I CAN ONLY IMAGINE THE THRILL I'D GET FROM STANDING RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE CRUSTY OLD FUCKER . . . .

  1. Somewhere I saw a pic of McQueen with shaggy uncut hair and beard on that bike, (maybe in "Cycle" magazine years ago...). He used to take off incognito, on that bike to get away from it all. Had it waiting with bedroll ready to go, as the story is told. Have to see if I can find that pic.

    2. Found... greaseheadquarters.blogspot.com/2011/12/blob.html ....He called it the "blob" after a movie he was in...think this is the pic I remember, with the plane in the background...probably at the aircraft hanger he was living in at the time.
www.indianchiefmotorcycles.com/modified.htm ...lots of Indians, and a few shots of Crockers.
community.motozania.com/_1946-Indian-Bobber-Steve-McQueens-favorite-bike/photo/15982449/29029.html ...seem to remember this from earlier, elsewhere... His bike was basically a clone of a bike his mechanic rode, check it out. Hope I got all this down right, if it don't go...let me know and I'll try again.

  2. Once upon a time, a good friend of mine was a teenager walking to school in San Francisco. As he walked by a gas station he happened to spot a Ferarri getting gassed up. He froze in his tracks as he realized it was Steve McQueen, in town working on a movie called "Bullit". McQueen looked up, smiled...and gave him a wave. If only he'd had a little camera...
