"BMW R100 CAFE RACER - 1979" . . . . 'CAFE RACER' . . . . HMMMM . . . . YET ANOTHER TERM THAT HAS BECOME THE VICTIM OF DEROGATORY COMMENTARY IN RECENT TIMES . . . . WITH THE RISE OF THE EVER MORE COMMON 'STREET TRACKER' THE HUMBLE COFFEE ROCKET HAS TAKEN A TUMBLE IN CRED . . . . WELL, LET ME GET IT OUT IN THE OPEN, A LOT OF THE STREET TRACKERS I SEE ARE FUCKING UGLY, ANGULAR, COBBLED TOGETHER, DORK MACHINES !!!

"BEAUTY OF FORM SHOULD NEVER GO OUT OF STYLE . . . . ALL GREAT BUILDERS RECOGNISE IT"

When did ugly bikes become cool, when did putting together something with the aesthetic rewards of a seven year old's Lego experiment become beautiful, which influential fuckwit decided that broken lines, knobbly tires, 'breadbox' tanks and black everything was a concept to be lauded, I can't answer any of those questions but I clearly missed the brief . . . . I guess some crew, in a desperate attempt to stay one step ahead in the fashion stakes, will pick up anything just to remain hip and happening in their own shallow, stagnant little pond, news flash, penis breath, you're just a sad, tragic hiccough in the larynx of life, exactly like boxy, lumpy, hideous, overhyped street trackers are, check out the guys who do it well then take a squiz at your stuff, see the difference, no, I thought not . . . . I had a point to all this however it's now moot, just relax and enjoy a pretty decent vid featuring a downright stylish R100 cafe racer, a wee bit wanky with the short black reference perhaps, but the overall concept of the footage, storyboard and bike itself are a much more desirable, enjoyable and enduring package than the uglier-than-a-hat-full-of-arseholes, two wheeled monstrosities masquerading as street trackers will ever be, save some bucks and my eyesight, buy a dirtbike . . . . somebody had to say it.

  1. Nice looking bike, love the way a Beemer sounds. The video's music was a little too dramatic though and almost put me to sleep at about 2:40. Maybe a new category of bikes; The "De-caf Racer?" Or maybe, "The Nyquil Racer?"

  2. right fucking on whitey! you have hit the nail squarely on the head mucker, emperor's new clothes? no-one dare say anything for fear of offending anyone with their true opinion's, let's all bow down to the exit sign, i've just read an article in a uk mag about some bloke building 'cool' bmw 'tracker's and cafe racer's and how he sparked a 'movement' with his 'salt-racer, rat-rod insired r65 boxer twin' excuse me?, me and barse were building 'brat-style bmw boxer's twenty-odd year's ago, we were inspired by the german bikes we saw at the kent custom bike show, the bikes that were built within the confines of the strict german t.u.v laws! like you said, bandwagon? form an orderly queue here gentlemen, you ain't sparked fuck-all monkey boy, just ugly, poorly executed, machines with not a hint of originality, cobbled together and posted on the 'tinterweb so all the sucker's can whip themselves into a frenzy at the, uhhnm, what exactly? a standard bmw with knobbly tyres and 'shorty muffler's' but, uhh, it's just so cool 'yah'....

    1. Bravo Timmy, touche . . . that whole Euro/German caper from the early nineties was so fresh and as you said, born of necessity, not that I'm a builder but just because you can a bike 'built' and running doesn't make it pleasing on the eye let alone cool. Then to start up your own shop and replicate your own level of ugliness then charge top dollar for the idiot privilege of owning one is just fucked . . . dare I mention the word Deus as an example. Yeah Lovey, fuck that dross, they make the mainstream design bods at the big four in Japan and Europe look like the talented but bland pricks that they are . . . but everyone's got talent these days mate, it's their right.

  3. Settle down 'granpa's' the kids gotta play with something....hahaha! Having just been hanging out at the Classic Japanese show over here this weekend, it was interesting to see peoples takes on what they think a Cafe Racer or a Street Tracker are about. An 'old guy' like me that was building Cafe bikes from 70's bikes in the 70's, and wrenching on real Flat Tracker's.....all you can do is bite your tounge and listen....then go find the real deal guys at the meet and swap a few stories. Been storing a Beemer for a friend of mine, who is thinking about downsizing his collection....seeing this Beemer and looking at Tim's project has got me thinking and drooling....
