BRUNSWICK ROD AND CUSTOM SHOW PART 1 . . . . A LOVELY WEEKEND WAS HAD BY ALL THANK YOU VERY MUCH . . . . KICKED OFF YESTERDAY ARVO WITH A QUICK PERVE THROUGH TOWN AT ALL THE EARLY ARRIVALS . . . . THEN A BRILLIANT DINNER AND VINO AT THE HOUSE ON THE HILL THEN BACK DOWN FOR THE EVENT PROPER TODAY . . . . A GOOD TURN-UP OF CARS AND PUNTERS AND THE OVERCAST SKY KEPT ITS PISSY CONTENTS IN ITS CLOUDY PANTS.

So why am I starting my documenting of a 'Rod and Custom Show' with a bog-stock resto of a fairly mundane, angular early sixties Pommie mosheen you may ask, because I can is my response, that and to annoy you. The A60 Austin was a pretty popular old bus out here when I was a kid in the sixties, being part of 'The British Empire' there was still a huge influence from the 'old country' in cultural terms on the lives of Australians, and quite an anti American vibe from many people my parents age so not that many folk were rushing out buying Impalas and Victorias . . . . names like Hillman, Austin, Vauxhall and Morris were common place, seeing them so frequently always left me with the impression they were kinda dorky, dinky, ugly cousins of 'Yank Tanks' and even our own locally produced Fords and Holdens. My best friend from primary school's father had the Austin Freeway station wagon version of this delightful old sedan, it was a curiously Anglophile take on the whole 'fin fixation' of the last half of the fifties from the States, I grudgingly liked it . . . . so when I saw this superb resto sitting among a sea of American and Aussie iron today, I had to get a shot or two, somebody obviously loves it dearly and has sunk substantial coin into its ongoing welfare and preservation, big respect man, whoever you are.

  1. Cool mosheens, looking like three quarter scale 'merican cars from the fifties...
