AND THEN THERE'S THE NOISE, THAT BEAUTIFUL, AWESOME, LUMP IN THE TROUSERS CACOPHONY ONLY THESE MONSTERS CAN GENERATE, EVEN STEVIE WONDER CAN DIG THE KILLER POWER INSIDE THESE POTENTIALLY LIFE DESTROYING, INFERNALLY COMBUSTING, HATE MACHINES . . . . SORRY TO ALL YOU 'MODERNISTS', NOT EVEN IN THE SAME BALLPARK, THIS WAS DRAG RACING AT ITS ABSOLUTE PINNACLE . . . . AS FOR THE PILOTS, XXXL COJONES ALL THE WAY BABY !!!

  1. Zoom, zoom...varooom.....racketah...racketah...rackatah... The town I spent part of Junior High and High school in, had two distinctive sounds going on. The Aerojet Corporation would occasionally fire off Saturn 5 rocket motor tests, and the nearby Sacramento Drag strip would provide the sounds weekends and on Wednesday night drags. Oh yeah, the local Sac Air Base would occasionally rev up the B-52's during alerts.
The drags are still going. The space program having been scaled back has made Aerojet a lot quieter, and with the base closed and turned into a commercial venture, there is far less sound these days. One of these days I need to get out to the drags and catch the sights and sounds....
