A TRULY GIFTED RIDER WITH A SET OF XXXL BALLS AND, FOR SOME TWO YEARS, MY BOSS AND PURVEYOR OF THE THEN BRAND NEW HINCKLEY TRIUMPHS . . .
Feens could pedal fucking hard, and I mean balls to the wall, even as a bloke close to forty as he was then !!! If it were not for a serious get off in Japan at the beginning of his career starting to really peak, he could well have become a household name before Gardiner . . . that's racing.
On the day I started working for him he took me two up on a '93 or '94 'Vulcan', a super ugly great KwakaHarley thing, for a blast into Sufferers Palestine, man, he was punting that fucker into corners and roundabouts so hard I thought bits of the bloody thing were being broken off we were scraping that heavily . . . but I always felt he had it under control . . . ??
I was behind him, Dazzler Beattie and Mick Doohan one arvo up in the mountains behind the Gold Coast, on what we called the Hinze Speedway, the Feens was on a fully wild KLX[?] 650 chooky a la Super Retard and Mick and Daryl were both on Fat Boys, Dazzler with his foot still recovering after having lost a couple of toes in a G.P get off a few months earlier and even Mick was relatively recently back on the track after his horror leg injury . . .
Anyway, Feens was givin it everything, really on the pin and both Mick and Daryl were throwing those big twins around like they were fucking dirt bikes !!! Insane !! Sparks like welding flash cascading in comet like tails behind them, pipes and pegs being worn down in a big way . . . . I just sat behind the three of em for two hours letting them dive on each other like a WWII dogfight, it was an unbelievable sight !!!
FEENEY SAN, AS THE SUITS FROM JAPAN USED TO CALL HIM, IS NOW THE AUSSIE IMPORTER OF HUSQUVARNA AND REMAINS ONE OF THE STRAIGHTEST SHOOTERS IN THE INDUSTRY . . . AS WELL AS STILL BEING ABLE TO ENJOY A COOL TREAT OR THREE . . . . WELL DONE OLD SON, LOVE YOUR WORK !!!
