A few weeks ago I bought a copy of 'The Big Book of Biker Flicks' from Gaz and Ben at Sideblog, a great coffee table/dunny read if ever there was one and highly recommended . . . . a vast number of the films covered within the cover of said book I was familiar with but the many unknown details and film facts are a real bonus . . . . nearing the last quarter of this excellent release, I came across "The Pink Angels", never having heard of it before, a comedy/spoof of the biker flick genre with a twist of pink . . . . or the rainbow as the case may now be.
I don't believe it's offensive to the modern gay community and I have no desire to vilify or upset any blokes who ride, or not, and are gay, I just thought it was a pretty funny flick, stereotyped for sure, but that's how it was back in the day . . . . just like John Inman in 'Are You Being Served', Billy Crystal in 'Soap', Joe Hasham in 'No. 96' or any other shows of the time daring enough to include gay characters in their storylines . . . .
I'm not sure how it was recieved when it was released in 1971, only a few years after the 'Summer of Love', but I get a feeling it may not have furthered the gay cause for equality and acceptance . . . . I don't have any real 'point' here other than homophobia, racism and bigotry of any kind is not cool, if you're gay, black, Muslim, Venusian or any other fucking thing, I couldn't care less . . . . be cool to me and I'll be cool to you.
Strange how some of these stream of consciousness blitherings take me off in tangents I had no initial idea of heading . . . . oh well, no apologies, I don't do retractions.
