SOUND CITY PLAYERS [THE FOOIES + JOHN FOGERTY] "FORTUNATE SON" . . . . POSSIBLY THE ONLY GENUINELY VITRIOLIC POLITICAL PROTEST TUNE WRITTEN BY A WHITE DUDE DURING THE SIXTIES . . . . FOGERTY ALWAYS PUT HIS SOUL WHERE HIS MOUTH WAS, THE MAN HAD SERIOUS COJONES . . . . HOW MANY OTHER MUSOS CAN YOU NAME WHO WOULD SIT ON THE SIDELINES RECORDING NOTHING FOR OVER A DECADE PURELY ON PRINCIPLE . . . . THOUGHT SO.

To hear him getting back into the game in the early eighties was a joyous revelation, to see and hear him now getting it on with younger guys who so righteously respect him is something that inspires real admiration . . . . I guess the lesson is if someone's trying to fuck you, don't let them, stand firm on your beliefs, be true to yourself, hold fast and be strong . . . . John Fogerty, hero.

  1. If my family had moved to the Sacramento area a little earlier, I might have caught CCR when they were still known as the 'Golliwogs', and played gigs at the local Recreation Center in Rancho Cordova....and were doing High School gigs...probably about the same time a group then known as 'The Warlocks' was playing High School gigs in the Bay area. They had a pretty decent banjo and guitar playing fella by the name of Jerome Garcia....

  2. Yeah, they had to change their name, because another group was using the Warlock moniker...Course before that they were originally known as "Mother McCree's Uptown Jug Champions"...
