Once more it's the time of the year where this crew of riders, not coffee shop posers, assemble for the bash they call the 'Bon Run', this is the 2012 version from Gonzadeath's pootube channel and he's been putting it out there since the first one . . . . the thing that stokes me the most is the guys devotion to their own quite specific interpretation of the 'speed bobber' image, it's purity and consistency has always blown me away, the ultimate homage to their own touchstones of inspiration.
A lot of you will recognise quite a few, if not many, of the rides in this pre run line up, and even from my perspective as a bloke familiar with them only through vids, blog and mag articles, you'll notice there is really only a refining process with most of them . . . . rather than wholesale stylistic change, it has always been about tweaking and perfecting, never jumping on the 'next big thing', to me, that is the really admirable thing, build a bike you love and hang onto the fucker because you got it pretty much right in the first place . . . . just make the bastard better !!!!
Similarly, the Basara mob and their immediate clan of cool have a genuine and obvious respect and love for building scoots which are not only stuffed full of genuine period parts, without falling victim of the 'period correct' bullshit, but bikes that are above all else meant to be flogged and flogged hard with no fear of getting em covered in road grime and filth . . . . I was having a rant about the 'faux patina' thing a month or so ago and my general detestation of it, these guys are the exact opposite of that caper, sourcing legit, well and truly used parts and then using the fuck out of them, on the road, at speed, just as the Gods of Speed intended it . . . . bang a drum, get it on, Bon Run !!!!
